Shiatsu

What Is Shiatsu?

The Japanese word “Shiatsu” literally means “finger-pressure”. Shiatsu massage is applied by thumbs, fingers, base of hands, elbows, knees or feet.

Shiatsu can be used as an alternative to, or in combination with acupuncture.  Both make use of specific locations on the body called acupuncture points.  Pressure is applied in lieu of needle insertion at these points.  Surrounding muscles are also massaged.

Shiatsu can reduce the effects of stress on the body and nudge it back toward a healthy state of balance. In other words, Shiatsu stimulates a person’s inner healing power so the body can work to heal itself.

Many clients find Shiatsu very relaxing and calming. They experience relief of muscular aches and pains. Others believe that regular shiatsu treatments help them sleep better.
